چکیده

In this article we report on a new proposal to treat the infrared problems of thermal QCD by taking into account explicitly the confining influence of the Gribov horizon. In order to make clear the possible value of such an approach, we briefly review the most important arguments why a straightforward perturbative description of finite-temperature QCD is unlikely to be successful. From the infrared problems of thermal perturbation theory one can conclude that confinement effects and bound states probably play an important role also in the high-temperature phase. To set the stage we recount the supposed role of the Gribov horizon for confinement, before we turn to the application to finite-temperature theory. In the current approach it has been found that the contributions to the free energy from the explicit inclusion of the horizon begin to set in at order g6 – precisely where the infrared problems of thermal QCD lead to a breakdown of ordinary perturbation theory. From the study of observables (free energy, anomaly, bulk viscosity) we also note that for thermodynamic observables the leading order term obtained by such an expansion in the coupling strongly deviates from the more complete numerical solution. This can be regarded as yet another sign for general problems of series expansions in thermal QCD.

Measuring infrared contributions to the QCD pressure

For the pressure (or free energy) of QCD, four-dimensional (4d) lattice data is available at zero baryon density up to a few times the critical temperature Tc. Perturbation theory, on the other hand, has serious convergence problems even at very high temperatures. In a combined analytical and three-dimensional (3d) lattice method, we show that it is possible to compute the QCD pressure from abo...

Renormalization of infrared contributions to the QCD pressure

Thanks to dimensional reduction, the infrared contributions to the QCD pressure can be obtained from two different three-dimensional effective field theories, called the Electrostatic QCD (YangMills plus adjoint Higgs) and the Magnetostatic QCD (pure Yang-Mills theory). Lattice measurements have been carried out within these theories, but a proper interpretation of the results requires renormal...

Long-distance contributions to the QCD pressure

The QCD pressure is a most fundamental quantity, for which lattice data is available up to a few times the critical temperature Tc. Perturbation theory, even at very high temperatures, has serious convergence problems. Combining analytical and 3d numerical methods, we show that it is possible to compute the QCD pressure from about 2Tc to infinity. We also describe an algorithm to generate and c...

Towards 4-loop NSPT result for a 3-dimensional condensate-contribution to hot QCD pressure

Thanks to dimensional reduction, the contributions to the hot QCD pressure coming from socalled soft modes can be studied via an effective three-dimensional theory named Electrostatic QCD (spatial Yang-Mills fields plus an adjoint Higgs scalar). The poor convergence of the perturbative series within EQCD suggests to perform lattice measurements of some of the associated gluon condensates. These...
